Summary
In the end, moving in with Buck is surprisingly easy.
It still breaks Eddie’s brain a little to think about it like that. This is his house, has been his house for years, the best years of his life, probably. This is where Christopher grew up, the place they both call home still. And sure, Eddie’s been renting it all this time, so it might not technically be his, but it’s close enough, right?
Close enough, except he moved all his belongings into a Uhaul and then into El fucking Paso, into what was supposed to be a fixer-upper and turned out to be some sort of haunted husk of a house with more problems than Eddie has hairs on his head, and now it’s not really home anymore, hasn’t been home for a while, except it also kind of never stopped.

He’s not thinking about it. He’s not. He’s definitely not.
Buck leaves for the night, gets in his car and drives away like everything’s normal – normal because it is, it literally is, it’s the most normal night in the world, and Eddie is the most normal he’s ever been, and then maybe an hour later, he gets a text.

“This gets you going, huh?” Eddie grins, propping himself up on his elbows so he can move higher on the bed, reach the pretty pink bow of Buck’s mouth. “Devotion? You being it for me?” He stretches up toward Buck’s ear, whispers: “Monogamy?”

Summary
“Ready to go?”
“I’ve been ready for a solid ten minutes, Buck. Yes, I’m ready. Let’s get to Costco before there’s too many people.”
Buck snorts, “Baby. It’s the middle of the week, this is the perfect time to go to Costco; it’s gonna be hella empty.” He opens the door and Eddie exits the house with a sigh.
“Famous last words, Buckley.”
“It’s 3pm on a Wednesday! I–” Eddie shows no sign of waiting so Buck takes it upon himself to lock up the house before heading over to the Jeep’s driver side, sliding in behind the wheel. “Who’s gonna be there on a Wednesday afternoon?”
“You never know, Buck. You never know.”

Summary
It’s not a whisper, not exactly. It’s just… matter-of-fact. Like saying it out loud isn’t the hard part. Like waiting for a reaction is.
The words drop between them, sudden and small, but precise.
Eddie blinks, caught mid-step.
“What?”
Buck searches his face. Something subtle shifts behind his eyes. “Wait… you didn’t know?”
There’s no accusation in it. Just confusion. Like it never occurred to him that Eddie wouldn’t know.
Eddie stares, his brain a beat behind his body. “No, I—I didn’t.”OR
Buck is trans and out. So out, that most people don't think about it anymore. So when Eddie joins the 118, no one mentions it. The question is, how long will it be, until Eddie finds out?

“And you’re gonna do that, where? At the 133?” Buck avoids his gaze. “Or you’re just transferring to a random station where nobody knows you and you can pretend you’re fine?”
“I’m going to the 217,” Buck finally says.
“You’re…” Eddie starts, then scrunches up his nose in confusion. “Why would you even want to–”
Oh no.
Oh hell no.
“Are you fucking serious right now?”
Buck doesn’t say anything, doesn’t even look at him.
“Buck.”
“What.”
Breathe, breathe, brea-
“No, no fucking what. You know exactly what.”

Summary
Eddie is finally doing it, and Buck said yes. They’re officially courting and he couldn’t be happier. His family is finally going to become a family, one he’s always wanted. One that Buck has always deserved. Him and his beautiful baby girl. Emilia is the cutest kid, besides Christopher.
—
“Emmy? Mija what’s wrong?” Eddie asks, his voice low and worried and his heart clenches as she bursts into tears.
“Daddy’s friend hurt him!” She wails and he can almost see her face. Tears streaming down as her eyes shine with sadness. His chest hurts just hearing it and he motions at Carla.

Summary
“What's so weird about Buck’s daemon being a dog? She’s not the only dog here.”
Hen shrugs, then her eyes flick upwards, landing on where Breya is lounging in the rafters above his head, a foreleg swinging back and forth. “She walked right up to you all on her own.”
“To glare at me.” She waves that off like it hadn't set the tone for the whole day.
“You were a stranger, they’re protective. They’re not too great with meeting people who stick around. But that's what I'm getting at. I’ve never met a daemon like her.”

Summary
“So where do you want to start?” asks Frank, and god, even the simplest questions are tough. How to even begin explaining the details of how you methodically destroyed every aspect of your own life. How do you explain chasing your own son out of the state? How do you explain burning your life down in pursuit of the ghost of your late wife?
“Buck got a boyfriend,” Eddie hears himself say, and then pauses, frowning in confusion at himself. “That’s not actually– I didn’t–” He lets himself take a breath under the heavy weight of Frank’s unwavering gaze, “It actually started with Pepa.”

This is the last act, Buck is sure of it. The tragedy of Evan Buckley must be the longest running play in history, because he's pretty sure that ninety-eight acts has got to be some sort of record.

Summary
“Do you need it?” Eddie asks, nodding toward the drawer where they both know the collar is kept.
Buck wants to say no. He should say no.
He’s messed up—again. All day, he’s been off, short-tempered, careless. He knows he’s pissed Eddie off. And he knows that even if Eddie punishes him for it, the aftercare will be soft, gentle, undeserved.
He doesn’t deserve that kind of sweetness.
He barely notices Eddie moving until he’s right in front of him.
“Buck. Hey. I got you. Do you need it or not?” Eddie catches Buck’s chin between his index finger and thumb, tilting him down to look at him. His voice is steady and so easy to latch onto. He’s looking at Buck. He’s paying attention to him, even after everything. Buck hasn’t earned it.
Buck has to earn love. Or he thought that, but right now, he’s not doing a lot of thinking. The second he nods, Eddie is smiling so softly at him, lifting a hand to pet through Buck’s hair.
tl;dr: sub top puppy buck is the best boy !!

Summary
Buck has self-control. He hasn’t always used it, but he likes to think he’s gotten a lot better at it, throughout the years.
Evidence: He’s clenching his jaw to the point of pain and very pointedly looking at the TV, like the local weatherman spouting off about a heat wave is capable of holding this much of his attention. If this were—before, they would not be watching the news.
...or, Eddie could just use his words, but where’s the fun in that?
