Will Graham is still struggling with his unknown encephalitis. Things get worse for him when Hannibal goes missing merely the day after a heavy conversation. A conversation Will barely remembers.
Will nods and shifts in his seat.
“You haven’t told anyone, have you?”
Will shakes his head.
“No, but I…” He trails off, second-guessing himself for a moment. “I’ve been hearing him. I-I hear his voice.” Will tilts his head as he stares at the floor. “I hear him when I’m alone and recently… I hear him when I’m with others, too.”
Bedelia is admittedly, at a loss for words. But she won’t dismiss Will or his experience.
“Perhaps you are unable to let go of him.”

will graham has always been able to see the dead, maybe he didn’t know it, maybe he didn’t want to know it, but he passed it as an empathy disorder. that felt safer, and after years of lying, he believed it himself. that is until hannibal lecter’s second coming. wrong and determined, just like the messiah he learned to love from both boyhood and adulthood, the ghost of his lost love pushes him to not turn his back on the becoming they so diligently worked on – and to become more than it.

Hannibal is dead, but also Hannibal is in this fic as an actual ghost, not a metaphor ghost.

Summary
Will Graham, a famous small-town author, takes up an offer to be the off-season caretaker at the otherwise deserted Overlook Hotel. Writers block was always hard to shake off, the young man only hoped that isolation and comfortable loneliness will help the fog of his mind clear.
Despite its empty and deserted look, Will is far from alone in the Overlook. A handsome, suit-clad man starts to appear in his dreams until he appears before the writers very eyes. Soon, Will becomes comforted by the presence and yearns for the moments Hannibal Lecter would show himself. The young author learns that his handsome visitor isn’t the only lost soul in that remains in the Overlook Hotel.

The cold of the countertop begins to warm under his fingers. Will Hears. On the fringes of his vacant mind, he listens for something, feeling around in the dark. There is a strange fizzing sound, the sizzling of a pan. Bacon, or sausage perhaps? Fresh breakfast and spices. There is sunlight, he can hear the morning rising throughout the house. Muted voices, distant, happy chatter.
Unconsciously, Will shifts his focus. The emotions come quickly, shooting up through the floor and into his body like an electric shock. It makes him shiver. He slips on a foreigner’s skin and feels. There is the quiet rush of joy, the elegant kind, when your hands have done something so many times that you’ve turned it into a kind of performance. A strange art. Dedicated to the enjoyment and honed perfection of a craft. Exhilarating and relaxing all at once.
Second comes a wave of love, parental instincts, the need to mold and to nurture. To care for someone. Fatherly love for a daughter, perhaps—Touch is a tricky talent. The faint smell of old-new paper, and carpet and fresh fabric well-taken care of. Earthy, lazy impressions and hot tea in fine cups.

“Can you hear me?” the man asks, almost sheepishly. He shakes his head as if the absurdity of the situation is only now striking him. “This is ridiculous,” he mutters. “How does this work again? Uh, Dr Lecter, are you here with me?” His eyes twitch down and Hannibal follows his gaze. There is some sort of board between them, covered in letters and numbers, a transparent device of some kind resting in his hand. “Give me a sign. Or something. I guess.”
Hannibal isn’t quite sure what the board is supposed to represent so he ignores it in favor of studying the man. He looks quite young, though the look in his eyes gives the impression that he’s older than he appears. Possibly mid to late twenties, if he had to guess. The curls framing his face are wild and sticking out of place. Frowning, Hannibal leans forward to tuck one back into place-
-and the man stiffens and lurches backwards, eyes widening with surprise. “That-” He cuts himself off. “Okay.” He closes his eyes and takes a steadying breath. “Okay.”

When Will moved into his new home in Baltimore, he'd been excited. He'd never owned such an extravagant home--it was exceptionally cheap though, and had a decent yard for his dogs. The home was so cheap, because it had been owned by a serial killer--Hannibal the Cannibal, he killed his victims in the basement, before butchering and cooking them. Hannibal had been killed by Federal Agent Jack Crawford and Special Agent Clarice Starling a year prior to Will purchasing the home.
