They can’t know. No one can ever know.
Just two boys battling their inner demons. They eventually find solace in one another. Along with the support and love of their friends. It just takes a while to get there.
This is mostly canon compliant but it may just diverge.
Title from Walt Whitman’s “To You”.

Summary
It's the 10th of December in 1971 on a Friday.
After believing Neil died that night Todd changed. He grew into unhealthy habits. Not knowing what to do he became an English teacher. Now he is working at a school in New York and just tries to get through his days with a young Neil often by his side.
Neil on the other hand was forced into med school by his father and became a doctor like he wanted. Not hating the job completely, he stayed with it. He broke off contact with his family and moved to New York to get away from them. Now he works in a hospital and is living a (relatively) happy life.
On a snowy night their paths cross again. How will they handle the new situation? How will Todd react to finding out Neil is actually alive?
Let’s see. -

Summary
“Honor candidate Neil Perry.”
Todd’s eyes were drawn to the boy who rose next. Neil Perry. He stood tall, his navy blazer adorned with an array of achievement pins clustered on his breast pocket — each one a gleaming testament to expectation, accomplishment, pressure. But beneath the polished surface, there was something else. Something that caught Todd’s attention and held it. Neil’s stance was dutiful, his posture perfect, but his eyes — his eyes — burned with something sharp and restless. There was a fire there, flickering just beneath the surface, barely contained.

Summary
My nephew used to ask when I was happy the most. He was maybe four or five - I'm not sure how my brother managed to grow such a philosopher - and for a while it was repetitive once he got sick of "What's you favourite colour?" And, "Why did your parents named you Todd?"
I told him it was my 13th birthday, or the day I finished high school, but he kept on asking.
Finally I said it was a few months in the autumn of 87', when I met one of my best friends.
He asked me then what's his name, probably sensing the truth in my words, and I answered simply, Neil Perry.or

Summary
Neil walked gently to him. With one knee sinking into the bed and his hands framing the space beside Todd, he loomed closer, the air between them narrowing. “Baby, what’s wrong?”
Todd avoided his gaze. “Nothing’s wrong.”
Neil lifted Todd’s chin so he could look at him. “Please stop lying. You look upset. Did I do something?”
“Seriously, Neil, I’m not upset. I uh… I just—I just got used to you introducing me to everyone as your boyfriend,” he hardly spoke straight. “And for the first time in 10 years you didn’t do it.”
OR
Five times Neil proudly introduced Todd to everyone as his boyfriend, and one time he didn’t.

Summary
And there - ardent under the glow of the stage lights and modelled, delicately porcelain, with piercing and loving and impassioned gaze making the distance all the way across the theatre, with slight but sturdy frame taking beautiful, unreal inhales from his chest and with each exhale the stale air shivered, yawped - there was the vulnerability that Todd had been so desperately missing.
Neil enters Todd's life again, after seven excruciating years, and between memories of the past and present, Todd can't decide whether it's a good thing, or not.

Summary
Neil Perry is interrupted by a mysterious figure. Who are they and why now? Why when it’s almost too late for Neil?
Basically I wanted to give Neil a character that would help and talk to him and just basically give him a slap in the face and tell him to seize the day.

Summary
There are a lot of different types of people in New York City.
Aspiring actors, experimental jazz soloists, poorly paid interns at aerospace engineering companies who dream of becoming rocket scientists themselves, radio hosts, lovesick musicians who can barely play guitar, bland 9-5 workers, and even anonymous journalists.
Lots of strange things happen in New York City every day. But this story could maybe contain some of the strangest...

Neil looked into Todd’s eyes, that soft, friendly face almost comforting him a little bit. 'I don’t know Todd. If you had been my last roommate, I would’ve told you yes, but I was going to die first. Now, though, everything Charlie told me got screwed up.'"(Anderperry Kidnapped Au)

Summary
I thought everything started to hurt less, but I came back to school, and our room was so empty, and now I look and I see dust on your desk. I'm afraid to touch it, but your side of the room looks so naked and cold, and it makes my chest hurt.
It always hurts, it just makes it hurt more.
Sometimes I think I'm being dramatic- I know you for six months, and half of it you're not here - but then I feel again like I'm dying, and everything hurts, and I can't move.
I know you wouldn't have left me, us, and I tried to tell this to the guys, that you wouldn't have done that yourself, but they insist.
I don't know why they insist. It is much sadder to think you hated living so much, that none of us could help.or

Summary
It starts with a poem and a proposal on a rainy evening.
They can’t get married. Not legally. But they can stand beneath the trees with the rest of the Dead Poets circling them like constellations, and Mr Keating in the front row wiping his eyes unsubtly.
Later, there’s a kid. She has a bookshelf far too big for her room and insists her dads fell in love because of poetry, which is technically true.
This is a story about love that doesn’t need paperwork to be real — just a porch light left on, a cat named Walt Whitman, and forever promised over cups of tea.
