Summary
Five years post a world war, the former sailor turned alcoholic PI Link Coutts and his snarky assistant Midna Dahl are tasked by Daphnes Nohansen with finding his missing daughter Zelda, whose disappearance comes following her auction win of an eerie, talking mirror piece. The mirror's strange powers and abilities to open portals to dark realms pits the three against adversaries looking to seize the mirror for their own twisted desires.
When he’d been drafted, nobody asked him if he knew how to swim or if he was any good with machinery. Link simply had all his limbs and a heartbeat, and he could nod on command. That was good enough. And thus, he was quickly reduced, like so many other young men, to his family name and a serial number, and then told, “Congrats, you’re submarine material!”
He turns to Zelda, feeling chilled from all the sweat now. “Can you help me up?” he asks her. “I can’t get my leg unstuck.”
She squeezes his hand. “Link, you’re not stuck. You don’t have a leg to get stuck."

When Ganondorf returns during Hyrule Warriors, he’s on a mission to make things right, though what that means is beyond everyone around him. Kidnapping the Hero of Hyrule and telling him he’s protecting him from the Queen is not what anyone expected, and nobody can quite figure out what his ultimate goal is. Link sure is confused, though, and… starting to realize there’s more to Ganondorf than just being a monster. Zelda, on the other hand, is quickly spiraling with panic and fear over losing her friend and Hero, as well as trying to protect her kingdom from such a threat that was so dangerous the previous Hero split his soul into pieces to prevent him from ever returning.
Ganondorf gets a redemption arc, Zelda gets a villain (and redemption) arc, and Link gets to find out what it truly means to be the Hero of Hyrule.

Link had lost all his memories, yet he remembered lives he had not lived.
Over his quest to save Zelda from Calamity Ganon, between defeating Guardians and Lynels, Link remembered...
Nothing of this life.
At least nothing that would help him. He remembered the barely adult woman he served. Remembered their friendship. He didn't remember all of it, but he could remember that he loved her. Like a feisty younger sister.
Zelda was such an intelligent young woman, and Link was proud to serve her. Yet he did not remember feeling any sort of feeling further than familial.
Not like he did when he remembered the lives he did not live.
The only thing he could even slightly make out on why he had these visions was the strange liquid he was stored in. It had allowed him to stay as himself, as a twenty-something man, for way longer than he would have otherwise. Stored him away from the world until he was ready to defeat the Calamity, trapping Zelda away from her kingdom.
Odd memories of such beautiful lives he was not living.

in a universe where Purah creates a device that helps the champions overcome the calamity, what if it were to malfunction, if it were to accidentally summon the hero from 100 years in the future?
this fic is basically just Purah accidentally time-traveling post-calamity/TOTK link to the pre-calamity champions (including her and Zelda) whilst he's wearing a mask, non of them realize it's him, and they now have beef since Link refuses to take it off and his fight or flight was triggered from being summoned, causing him to attack them. How are they going to realize that the weird Bokoblin acting Hylian(?) is Link, that all of them are dead in the future and that he's now a speaking, chaotic mess of the royal guard he once was???
Also, I only realized this 4 months after posting the first chapter, but updates are really slow, usually monthly. so if the latest chapter is around a month old, I'll probably post a new one that week.
(btw, the revilink isn't in here yet, honestly idk if I'm even gonna include it in the fic in the first place???)
