The Armani, expensive Rolexes, constant playing of Genesis with an echo of opinions that didn’t really matter — many people could see the jawline of his cop father when Patrick opened his mouth and thought better, but unfortunately Paul’s already on his bad side, so what does it matter? Patrick already stares at him like he’s the abyss, so Paul’s stubborn enough to watch him back. Therapy isn’t shit anyway, existence is illusory and eternal.
What is Paul Owen? Patrick could think about it all day. He was a genius, an idiot, and one of the most obvious liars he’s ever had to pick apart; therefore, one of the most important. A blurry mirror a maid forgot to clean. A heart that beats for no reason when removed from the body. Paul Owen is a lot like a ship with a lackluster sail, being pushed around until it crashes onto land before being sucked in again. Tumbling along with the waves without question, no sight in mind. Paul’s so clearly a man without guidance, and Patrick’s the most suitable to finally touch the sails. He can tell Paul yearns for the print of his hand.

I pick stubbornly at my omelette, separating out the onions, thoughts wandering between karma and retribution and Ed Gein-esque diagrams of flayed bodies hidden in Patrick's study.
