WOW. By far ONE OF THE BEST Steve/Bucky fics out there. I thoroughly enjoyed that - the amount of angst was just right, and then a happy ending ensured that you were completely heartbroken at the end of the fic.
I definitely recommend.

Set after Something Borrowed, but not particularly "AU" (at least, at time of writing) it slots into season 2.

Wow. Fuck. What a fic. WHAT a fic. So, so, SO, SO GOOD. And I cried too - ends happy, but wow, it really explores the tragedy of Jack's immortality and the pain But it fills you with a sort of painful hope you know? And teaches you to love hard in life, to not be afraid to love and live just because you may lose them. Seriously what a fic.
I HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND. Fantastic writing, GREAT plot - man to tie all the loose ends like that? With all those twists? Especially with all the time stuff? Foreshadowing and didn't let down? It was PHENOMENAL all the way through. That was so skilfully written!(Essentially taking three timelines and making it merge on this one central point!) The story is just beautiful crafted. And an exploration of Jack Harkness that is simply poetic.
Don't care if you're not in this fandom. It is DEFINITELY worth the read.
You really only need the vaguest idea of Doctor Who for some background and I think one would appreciate the fic more if you look up a bit of Jack Harkness first. I've personally never watched Torchwood and only a few episodes of Doctor Who (oh but I do LOVE reading the fandom's analysis on the characters and breakdown of major moments in the show! Man all you literary geeks on tumblr!) and this was a joy to read.
Man, I'm just a sucker for a VERY WELL-WRITTEND AND CONSTRUCTED crazy time paradox where things come in full circle sort of storyline and then throw in a man, who through a series of adventures (aka watch the episode where Doctor first meet Jack and then google a lil to realize somehow after lots of episodes and some of the series in Torchwood), cannot die and tired of continual loss, decides never to love again. Then we have Ianto Jones who loves him and struggle to be happy with the little superficial relationship that Jack offers. Oh yeah, and then he touches something like Jack's vortex thing and gets thrown into the fifty-fifth Century - the FUTURE...or should I say Jack's past? (And technically his future I guess...? Cuz he's immortal and will eventually...ANYWAY)

Wow, this piece...hurts. But it soothes too...it's so good. Angst and wonderful amounts of hurt/comfort.
This is the fic that triggered my deep deep urge to hunt down more Winter Soldier time-travels to past and meets/get to know pre-serum Steve. And of course, Steve recognizes his best friend, now matter how much he's aged, how hollow, hurt, and damaged he is as the Winter Soldier.
Part 2 is wonderfully soothing as well...with past!Bucky thrown into the future.
My only greatest yearning desire for this fic was that I wanted MORE -- especially of Winter Soldier and pre-serum Steve now that we know the switch is permanent and off on their on timeline. What's the war going to be like with Bucky already the winter soldier, though broken but healing? Like when he gets drafted? How are they going to explain the metal arm? How's the new dynamic between Bucky and Steve now going to change things and events within the canon line? Confrontation with Zola? There's so much to play with here! So many interesting plot bunnies and no one's running with them!!
