    “You fell. Again.” Technoblade looks at him with an expression that Tommy can’t quite seem to place.

    “Life’s not so easy when you’re not immortal.” Tommy spits back, huffing and pulling himself off the ground. He feels a twinge of fear for snapping at Technoblade like that, but he quickly shatters it.

    “You are mortal, yet you stand before me, refusing to give up.” Technoblade replies, tilting his head up slightly.

    “You are stubborn, and certainly foolish at times.” Technoblade’s gaze seemed to hold Tommy there, as they stared into each other’s irises.

    “But you have a gift that many mortals will never have.” The prince pauses, releasing his eyes from Tommy, and attaching them to the window.

    “You are brave.”

    Tommy is a teenager living in the Antarctic Empire, ruled by immortal beings. He is alone and starts to wonder what purpose he serves in this world, when Prince Technoblade of the Antarctic Empire takes a particular interest in him. Technoblade recruits him as a servant for the castle. His bond grows with Technoblade and the rest of his royal family, as he discovers something about himself.

    Ranboo stared at Techno in disbelief, pointedly raising his eyebrows at the man who was currently in his hog form. Techno shifted, unrepentant, and light glinted off the saliva on his tusks. "Techno. The picture is barely four pixels wide."

    The royal family doesn’t need to be close, however, it only needs to be balanced, like the pillars holding the country above their heads – as long as they are strong and steady, the Empire will be too. It’s the principle that held Tommy’s back straight and his shoulders broad through the years of hardships and trials of errors; through yet another formal meeting where his father’s gaze would look past him and where his brother’s words would be filled with poison that makes the deepest parts of his soul ache.

    At that time, Tommy couldn't know that his family would find a replacement for him in the face of a commoner boy named Ranboo.

    “And won’t make that mistake again,” he continued, ignoring Dream’s outburst. “Go scrape the clearing.”
    “Sam-“ he tried.
    “That’s ‘General’,” Sam corrected, “Maybe you’ll finally get some discipline knocked into you.” Dream opened his mouth to argue again.
    “Now, Dream. That’s an order.” Sam growled, “Get out.”

    Tommy’s looks like Tubbo’s told a joke. The uniform was enough for everyone else but Tommy doesn’t believe him. Or he’s smiling for another reason.

    “I’m sure you’ve heard, but Prince Theseus doesn’t think highly of being guarded,” he says, amused. Tubbo can’t see the humour, but he’s also certain that he’d get in trouble for turning his back on the lordling, having surmised that Tommy is not quite royalty, but still high in status—certainly higher than Sam or Dream or any of the knights that would step in to defend Tubbo’s actions.

    “He doesn’t see the point, when he’s trapped in the castle as it is,” Tommy continues; “being guarded is worse. They’re all stiff, proper and fucking bootlickers to the old man, but if you want, I can put in a good word for you.”

    Tubbo’s scepticism must show on his face because Tommy pouts playfully. “What? Don’t you trust me?”
    “I don’t know you,” Tubbo says before he can think about it.

    Curse his unruly mouth. Mother told him he didn’t often think before his spoke and now he’s being rude to a lordling because of it.

    Or: Tubbo is Prince Theseus's new guard. Except he can't find him.

Looking at him, with wide eyes and horror and - and anger? guilt? fear? - and he feels the network churn and pulse, beneath him, uneasily responding to the somersaulting of his gut-

    “Dream?” Someone else says, and that voice feels familiar - so close, a name on the tip of his tongue but not, and it’s all so frustrating. “Wait - is that - Dream?!”
