    The room went deathly quiet, and the soft patter of rain outside of modest wooden walls made everything resonate with a certain dull somberness. Despite a hesitant warmth in the air, Deshrau felt cold and numb. The taste of the past was painfully bitter on his mouth, and one not easily forgotten.

    "Do you really think this can work? This... truce?"

    It was that, and only that: A truce. Nothing more, nothing less. A temporary arrangement for a temporary problem, destined to end- one way or another.

    Saershyn was unusually hesitant. His eyes were heavy and distant, his frown grim with some kind of unspoken and terrible understanding.

    "I hope so." He spoke softly.

    Two idiots are forced to very begrudgingly get along as one recover from an injury. Everything is fine- until they get tracked down by a wildly vengeful god and have to flee the continent. Why exactly is this god out for their blood? Well, someone's hiding something about their past. Unexpected allies get dragged into the mess, and things quickly grow even more complicated.

    Some souls are born in chains. Cruelty is in a god's nature, after all.

    Felix Blackwater is one of those teenagers. Accused of murdering his girlfriend and forced to participate in this cruel competition, Felix must decide the best way to survive, and decide if it is worth it.

    This is an alternate version of another story I wrote, Cry Coyote Run. It diverts from the main story in chapter 9 when a major decision is made: Does he go with the murderer or try to fight? In this work, he chooses the murderer.
