Summary
Gordon looked just as he had at the gala.
Gray hair and mustache. Long beige coat. Eyes tempered by age and all the things he had seen.
I stood when he entered; and took his hand when he extended it to me.
“Ms. Ashton, it’s good to meet you now that you’re recovered from that mess at the gala,” he stated, looking me over with a cop's eye. “I’m surprised you weren’t injured considering the amount of blood on your person at the time.” His handshake was firm and dry.
I managed a tight smile, “I wouldn’t say I left unscathed but I’m recovering well thanks to Bruce. His care and kindness are proving to be invaluable.”
He stepped back as Bruce joined us. “Yes, well… Bruce has always been willing to step in and offer his resources when needed. One of the few wealthy men in this city who will. Maybe the only one.”
Bruce chuckled lowly and clapped Jim Gordon on the back. “Now, Jim. I can’t be the only one with a healthy check-book willing to help out the police when they need it. I remember plenty of donations at the last charity ball for the force, if memory serves.”
