    Summary

It started with a chance meeting in Tridam. A small outpost town squatting on the banks of the River Braa in northern Redania. As he rode across the town’s perimeter, Scorpion’s hooves drumming on the loose slats of the bridge, he felt the weight of disapproving eyes drift towards him. Since Blaviken, it had become more important than ever to take the measure of a population’s stares as you entered their town. Were they formed by the usual disdain informed by prejudice? Or did they hold a sharper edge?

    Summary

After many years of travelling together, Jaskier visited Kaer Morhen at Geralt's invitation. He had lapped up every story Geralt told him of his childhood inside those tall, stone walls, and the other witchers were like heroes from a fairy tale in Jaskier’s eyes.

Unfortunately for Jaskier, he still has a whole raft of misconceptions to work through before he can hope to earn the trust of the remaining wolves of Kaer Morhen.

    Summary

“Does your father have a comm?” He asked Boba, trying to make sure none of his unease showed. “I expected he’d be back already.”

Boba nodded, giving him the comm codes. Obi-Wan stepped away before comming the line.

It was picked up after a few moments and he let out a breath of relief. “This is Obi-Wan.” Not that he was sure that his bed mate knew his name, since Obi-Wan didn’t know his. “When are you getting back?”

There was silence on the other end for a long moment. “I’m sorry,” a soft voice—a voice that was not his bed mate’s—but whoever you’re trying to call is currently in the morgue.”

    ...

His bed mate—Jango Fett, he was informed—was dead.

And the last thing he’d done was leave his son with Obi-Wan.

Obi-Wan hadn't signed up for this.

“You want us to expel you from the Order.”

Obi-Wan nodded, he’d grown ashen, even with the vague explanation of his plan. “I went too far while undercover. Killed an unarmed man, had a liaison with a bounty hunter to the point I let him escape.”

Windu shook his head. “No one would believe we’d expel you for that.” Jango actually agreed with that. The Jedi had performed all sorts of atrocities and been lauded for it.

Obi-Wan was not discouraged by the argument either. “On the heels of what Krell did?”

Jango wondered who Krell was and what he did, but it made Windu sit back, eyes going dark.

Obi-Wan continued, voice almost painfully calm. “You can even point out that I was on Umbara too, that I didn’t catch him.”

“You never once fought with him. No one would—“

“Everyone would,” Obi-Wan interrupted. “And you know it. It wouldn’t be the first time the Order used me as a scapegoat.”

    Windu flinched. ”Obi-Wan—“

“How easy would it be to twist. The failed initiate. The unfaithful padawan. The power-hungry knight taking on the Chosen One. The Jedi Master that Dooku has openly tried to sway to his side. The man who was a better General than he’d ever been a Jedi.”

“Obi-Wan.” Windu shook his head, but he didn’t actually disagree with any of the points, which was telling all on it’s own.
