Summary
Buck's laughter gets cut off when Eddie speaks up again, “Aren't you cold?”
Buck pauses, looking next to him to find that Eddie hasn't looked up from his shirt. The look in his eyes was dark and full of swirling desire. If his mouth were still open he would probably be drooling.
Oh?
—
Buck has a realization that Eddie is attracted to him. Like a lot. But he's not sure if Eddie is aware of this. He does his best to help him out, even if Eddie pulls back at every chance he gets.
However, Buck is nothing if not persistent.

Summary
He left, and when he told Maddie she cried and Buck held her until she stopped shaking. He stayed for a dinner he made, and then well past Jee-Yun's bedtime and Chim had told him, seriously, when he was gathering his things and Maddie had fallen asleep on the couch, to do something that should have been simple. "Call Eddie."
"Sure," Buck said with a half smile and a bubbling in his gut.
He wasn't going to call Eddie. Eddie was busy, and Buck was an adult, and, in the grand scheme of things, his mother dying wasn't anything for anyone to worry about. She was dead, Eddie Diaz could stubbornly restart Buck's heart, but Margaret Buckley was well past the ressusitation point. Eddie was a lot of things (smart, capable, funny, handsome, adorable, so, so, so kind), but he wasn't a necromancer.
Besides, what had sent him back to Texas was much more important than Buck dead mother.

Summary
“I-I need you do to something for me. I—” There’s a terrible wheeze and Bobby can almost see the man’s pinched face, desperately trying to smooth any indication of harm. “I need you to tell—”
“No.” Bobby says strongly into the radio, his eyes never wavering from the collapsed building. He feels himself losing it – he feels the same terrible ache snake in his spine then he did that night, smoke clouding his lungs. “No, firefighter, you’re not doing this. We’re clearing debris and we’ll—”
“Please?”
It’s small, almost childlike.
How could he ever deny a dying man’s request?

After reevaluating his career, Eddie finds himself in Texas. It’s alright, if not a boring existence. In his selfish moments, he longs for the adrenaline rush of a fire, the open air on his face. But he’s… fine. He has to be. Fine, that is. He moved for Christopher, his life in L.A. nothing more than a painful memory of what could’ve been. Eddie’s fine. When his Abuela watches the news, Eddie knows everything will change. A story about a firefighter, trapped in a building with kids. A firefighter wheezing goodbyes for those who have left him. A firefighter from the 118.
Eddie is not fine.

“It’s not fair that I’m called Robbie,” Robbie blurts out.
Bobby raises an eyebrow. “What do you mean?”
“You, Brook, and Buck are all Bs. I’m an R.”
Buck swallows a laugh. “Actually, You is a Y.”
Robbie scoffs. “You is a idiot.”
Buck’s eyes twinkle. “You are an idiot. Offend me all you want, sure –but don’t commit war crimes against grammar.”
“Language,” Bobby says, sharply, though there’s no real heat in it.
Brook tilts her head, totally unbothered. “...Technically, he was correcting language.”or: Bobby travels back in time, hits Buck with his truck, adopts Buck, and changes the future just by being a father.

If anyone needs to feel better about the shit-hole-fire that was S-8 then this is the fic to read honestly. I like to think, if Bobby doesn't come back, that he went here instead :(
Bobby from an outsiders POV is so crazy, cuz he moves to LA, hits a man with his car, brings said man back home and proceeds to adopt him? And the fact his kids think they moved there to be closer to Buck is already unhinged by itself LMAO
Buck has his 'bad girl gone catholic' phase, and it's actually good and not slut-shamey
Tommy and Abby can SUCK IT. Old ass vultures oh my god

Summary
Gifted with a power that only seemed to annoy his parents, Eddie Diaz didn't have much luck growing up. Turned away by both the military and his wife, his entire focus was on making sure that Chris grew up with all the encouragement and love that Eddie could give him. That quest brought him to LA, to a school that specializes in the teaching of young metahumans in a safe, positive environment. Will the shadows of Eddie's upbringing continue to intrude, or will Chris's teacher make room for hope instead?

Tommy 😒😒 I picture him with a little propeller on his head, like those dumb hats
Eddies whole coming to terms with his power (something completely normal but his fuckhead parents can't just be supportive) is SOO GOOD. Especially because he's partly fueled by his want to help Chris with his, good dad moment!!
Everyone's powers fit in a way that is so them but not exactly on the nose (Buck hs bubbles!! BUBBLES!!) i could probably right a whole essay about it
