Summary
His dad wanted to make sure he was always loved, always taken care of. Chris knew with his entire being that if his dad couldn't be the one loving and taking care of him then there was no one who would do a better job of it than Buck.
But apparently, this 'Evan' guy was written in his dad's will as the person to take care of Chris.
But that's stupid, that's the stupidest thing Chris ever heard. Chris needed to know that if he couldn't be taken care of by his dad then he'd be taken care of by Buck.
There was only one way Chris could make sure Buck would be the one taking care of him. He needed Buck to adopt him, as his stepfather.
It was a great idea, really. Chris didn't know why he's never thought of it before.
It was a win-win-win scenario. Chris got to be taken care of by his dad and Buck, his dad and Buck each got to marry their best friend, and this Evan guy could never take Chris away from Buck if his dad got hurt.
So, obviously, his dad had to marry Buck. All they had to do was fall in love. Chris didn't think that would be too hard for them.

Three things happen as Eddie walks through the door of the dentist’s office:
1. the entire waiting room turns to look at him as if they were expecting a celebrity
2. the flustered receptionist looks up, sees Eddie, and says “oh thank god”
3. what is unmistakably Buck’s voice booms down the hall, slurred, but clear as day

“Bless your heart, you really are new to this. Good for y’all, though. I’m glad this ship is… accepting.”
Eddie straightens in his seat. “What does that mean?”
All four wince as a young man taps the microphone onstage.
“Testing, testing,” he jokes. “Welcome to the Cruisin’ Couples Trivia Tournament!”
The patrons around them cheer. Eddie digs his nails into Buck’s skin harsh enough to make him wince.
“Oh,” he breathes. “This is for couples.”
or: After getting dumped, Buck is left with two tickets to a weeklong cruise. Eddie steps in to support a friend in need, but complications arise when his friend becomes his fake husband. All's fair in love, war, and trivia.

Summary
Eddie didn’t know when it became a competition, but once it was one, it was fierce. Christopher had a bit of disposable income from birthdays and what not that he was able to use, but there were a few times he’d managed to trick Eddie into giving him his card so he could buy a new duck. His hard earned money, going towards making the competition look better? Heresy.
“You’re his best friend…for now!” Christopher would say, before slamming his door in Eddie’s face. That always got that feeling kicking to life in him, the one that absolutely wasn’t jealousy, and he’d be bolting for his laptop to try to find the best duck he possibly could.
