Here’s the thing.
Eddie’s in love with his best friend.
He doesn’t know how or why it happened, just that it must have built up little by little over the years until it blossomed into this all consuming feeling pushing at the walls of his chest. Sometimes he worries it’ll crack a rib, that they’ll creak and flex beneath the weight of it the way Bucks had when he performed CPR on him, but rather than holding strong like Buck’s, his ribs, weak from years of ignorance, will snap.
Because he should have known. He should have known when he booked the appointment with his attorney and wrote Buck’s name into his will. He should’ve known when a bullet pierced his shoulder and blood spattered over Bucks face, and in that moment between seeing and feeling, absolute terror over Buck’s safety pierced him with as much force as the bullet.

“But you are straight,” Buck says, his tone maybe a little off. “Right?”
Eddie thinks about it for a moment, because honestly, it’s not something he’s ever really considered. Which seems crazy, considering his previously-assumed-straight best friend came out to him in the last year.
“I’ve never really thought about it,” Eddie admits. “I mean, I’ll check out a hot guy’s ass now and then, but that’s normal.”
Buck chokes.
“It’s not ab-normal,” Buck manages to get out. “Or so I hear.”
