"But you said you didn't..."
"I do not want what they do on Mojoworld," Shatty clarifies, a little sharp. "You are different."
"I'm not gonna be as good as an alpha," Julio warns him. "And I've never even, y'know, gone the distance with a girl."
"Well then it is a good thing I am not a girl," Shatterstar says, and he's teasing now, Julio can tell.

He would hug Grant, is the thing. If he asked, Roy would wrap him in the kind of hug that makes Lian go limp with relief after a nightmare. The kind of hug that he learned from Ollie and Brave Bow before him. The kind of hug that kids are supposed to get from their dads. He lived for those hugs in the way a lonely kid always does. Leaning into it because for all the problems and the bitterness, Ollie never laid a hand on him like that. He remembers the sting of that slap, then thinks about Ollie looking him in the eye and telling him it's okay, you can shoot me if you need to.
It feels a little like that, crouched in front of Grant while he's on the verge of blowing up. Like this kid could turn him to dust and he wouldn't blame him at all. Because he's just that. A scared kid trying to fight someone that's already dead and gone.
John Emerson is lucky he died before Roy ever got ahold of him.

Summary
A dæmon was the physical manifestation of a human soul in Lyra's world. Humans in other worlds had dæmons. However, they were invisible to those who had not learned the technique to see them.
Dæmons were able to hold different intuitions to their humans and reveal emotional responses to their surroundings that might not otherwise be obvious in their humans. Dæmons shared the same dreams as their humans and could communicate both verbally and non-verbally with them.
