Summary
Fight or Flight. Most people are aware of it. It’s an automatic response that most humans, and most animals have. If put into a high stress situation, a person would either try to fight or run away. Sunny has been trying to run away for the past four years. Since he wasn’t allowed to run away in this high stress confrontation with Basil, even though he tried very hard to, he was forced to choose Fight.
There was a third response that far fewer people know. Freeze. If you’re stuck fighting or running away, it's natural to just freeze.
Sunny would have froze. The shears would have plunged into his eye. He would have lost. A voice in his head was the only thing that made him go into action.
“Sunny, stop that blade."
Or, the Basil boss fight. But Sunny has a knife. Somehow things change for the better.

This is pretty much the Basil fight in the Sunny Route of the game but I wrote it in detail, give or take a few differences like Sunny having dialog as well as a few other differences. Hope you like it! -

Sunny hadn't meant to push Basil, really!
He just- Basil hadn't been letting him leave to go practice for the recital, and he was acting really possessive and kind of insane, and it scared him, and-
Basil isn't moving. He's not moving, and Sunny can't tell if he's breathing or not, and he's scared. He didn't mean for this to happen. Basil's fine, he has to be, right?
Kel seems to think otherwise. Sunny's not sure when he got here, but he's telling Sunny that if the others find out, he'll get hurt. Sunny doesn't want to get hurt. So he does what Kel says, but now he feels like he made everything worse.

[OMORI game events during the three days, but from Basil’s POV]
Basil has three days left to go. His Grandmother isn’t doing well. Wether he likes it or not, she’ll be gone in a matter of days. Then, it’ll be over. For him as well.
He has a plan and that plan consists in getting his old album back. Just to look through old times he ripped from the world, one last time. To see everyone happy again, one last time. To see the face of his best friend, one last time before he goes.
Only of course nothing goes as Basil planned, with Sunny finally showing up at the worst time possible.
