It was innocent enough in the beginning, or at least she had convinced herself it had been. Maya clutched her stomach, bile rising in her throat, her heart thundering in her chest. Her fingers splayed over her own skin, the alien knowledge that there was some sort of strange, unexpected, form of life growing inside her washing over her like ice water. Things were about to become much more serious than she had ever bargained for.
