They stared back at him—empty, too bare.
Pale skin smeared with crimson, his wrist and sleeve caked in gore. His jaw clenched slightly at the putrid scent of blood.
He could still taste it — bitter.
How long had he been doing this for?
Years, weeks, months?— he hadn't kept track; he hadn't wanted to. And yet, now, staring at the motionless flesh by his boots, he finally understood why.
