The keys Erestor had picked up in town – a twenty minute taxi ride away – jingled where they hung from his fingers. The hairs on the back of his neck prickled but when he looked around all he could see were shadows and the dark looming trees that surrounded the house. Hah. House. Right.
In the listing it had been called a charming faux-manor house in the style of Gondolin. Erestor had no idea what that meant but from the price he thought it was just a fancy way of saying a cabin out in the woods.
He was wrong.

Lindir flew through the trees, his bare feet torn from brambles and branches, uncaring at the wounds just so long as he could flee. Each breath burned in his chest. He could hear nothing but his own terrified heartbeat thundering in his ears. The world was dark about him, the forest thick and dense, where little light could come through. He could see no other Hunted in sight, nor any of the Packs that were thick in these dark woods. That should have been a relief.
