Gale's reaction was like the hiccup of a heartbeat. His gentle hands suddenly tensed around my face, then released just as quickly and stroked my cheek in apology.
"Tav, did you just say—? Taveela, can you hear me?"
His face swam in and out of my vision as a new wave of the burning heat roared through my veins. He held onto me with delicate care, but the intensity of his gaze bored into my soul.
"I need you to listen to me. I think—well, of course I can't be sure without further study. What I wouldn't give to have access to a library—"
"No tangents right now," Astarion snapped.
"Yes, yes. What I mean to say is that I think—I think, Tav, that you might…might be an omega."
Tadpoles and cults are barely the half of it for Taveela. In a world where Alphas are rare and Omegas are no more than a myth, Tav and her companions are landed with her sudden presentation and must navigate how best to see her through her heat—all while continuing their quest to rid the realm of the Cult of the Absolute. Will Tav find the family she's always yearned for? Or will the gang tear each other to shreds before any of them get a chance?

She has imagined potential reunions with Lae'zel before, but she never imagined they would occur before the death of the Lich Queen. It would feel like caging a wild animal. Lae'zel would always be looking outward, wondering about the Astral Sea and the fate of her people.
But Shadowheart is not a perfect creature. She houses these wild animals anyway. She watches wolves, squirrels, and cats lumber through the widened door of her cottage, embracing the warmth of her hostel and the gentle touch of her hands before returning to their own homes. She wonders if Lae’zel will come back to her in this way—imagines Lae’zel coming to visit for a single night before returning to the moon above where Shadowheart sends her prayers.

It had all been going so well, Moonrise Towers and the Cult of the Absolute within was set to crumble to ash before them. The days in the Shadow-Cursed Lands had been long and difficult, but Tav had never felt as powerful, as capable as they did right now.

It only takes one comment from Z'rell to shake their confidence, and bring their every accomplishment as a leader until this point into question.

“Are you sure?” Shadowheart asked, and Ari recognized the tension in her jaw—the cleric was holding back. “We don’t want to overwhelm you.”
“I want you to,” Ari replied without thinking, and something primal inside her crowed a victory as Karlach clenched her fists and dropped her head back to lean against the door, and Shadowheart’s pupils blew so wide Ari could hardly see the soft green of her irises.

Heir isn’t what most people picture when they think of a hero.
