Light liếc ngăn kéo, ánh mắt bỗng trở nên trìu mến. Cử chỉ cũng từ tốn và nhẹ nhàng hẳn khi hắn chạm vào tấm vải và kéo ra chậm rãi, tựa như nó có thể rách tươm nếu hắn quá mạnh bạo. Hắn ôm nó, một cái áo khoác, thật chặt trong lòng. Sống mũi cay cay khi hắn thử hít hà hương thơm không có thật, lần này bất giác tự tưởng tượng về mùi kẹo bơ cứng ngòn ngọt.
- Mỉa mai thật, kẹo bơ cứng...Có phải thứ tên L ăn hôm nay không? Hắn đang chơi đùa tâm trí ta đây mà...
Cái áo này quá nhỏ, hắn cố tình chọn đúng kích cỡ này, mặc dù hắn luôn biết mình không mặc vừa nên chưa từng muốn khoác nó lên. Nhưng màu sắc này, chất liệu, kiểu dáng và nhất là chi tiết hình lông vũ trắng ở cuối cánh tay lại đặc biệt thu hút hắn. Khoảnh khắc đầu tiên Light trông thấy nó, ác quỷ quyết phải có được nó ngay.
Đầu óc hắn quay quay. Chiếc áo này có một ý nghĩa lớn lao với hắn mà chính hắn chẳng tài nào hiểu thấu. Chỉ dám chắc, nó giống hệt cái hình ảnh mờ mờ ảo ảo cuối cùng mà Yagami Light ghi nhớ được trước khi mãi ngừng thở. -

In a slightly happier world where the Death Notes are less used, the brilliant detective L and first-year college student/NPA volunteer Light solve cases the world over without much challenge at all. To alleviate the boredom of their simpler work as the Kira case lies dormant, each independently takes up a vastly more trivial but surprisingly difficult mission in his free time: Light wants to scare off the mysterious, eerie brat who dares to take his baby sister on secret dates, while L wants to protect his baby brother from the highly irregular misfortune that seems to ensue whenever he hangs out with this new friend of his. With the two of them going all-out in a battle of wits, the task force - or even the city - might be in trouble before long...
(Near doesn't really get the point of this whole endeavour, but after a fashion Sayu is elated about the sheer number of embarrassing stories and photos she'll be able to trot out at their big brothers' eventual wedding.)

L, usually reasonable and sharp, takes a stupid risk on a rainy day, and ends up soaked and sick. Light, who is chained to L, has nothing better to do with his weekend than to nurse L back to health, and nurse the budding feelings between the two of them, helping something other than suspicion and hatred bloom between them.

Summary
L and Light both get reincarnated after the events of Death Note. Light remembers everything, L does not. What's more confusing is they are both the same age at To'Oh University. In this new life, some things are the same while others are vastly different.
Light is convinced he and L have been brought back as some kind of experiment. He soon begins to wonder if it's some sort of cosmic irony as he realises L has a Death Note and a loyal and fearsome Shinigami at his beck and call.
When L tells him they've been brought back as they've both not achieved their true purpose in life, Light has his eyes opened to what is truly important...
