“I forgive you,” Boromir says, just as grave as the captain before him, accepting his demotion to knighthood with far more grace than most would afford a too-bold babe. “An’ I dub you Sir ‘Rongil, so you must help protect nana. ‘Cos you’ve a real sword an’ can cut down real foes, until I have one, too, and can protect her better.”
So saying, he drives the point of the sword into the ground, and turns to face Finduilas, legs trembling a little with the effort to hold himself back from bouncing.
“No fear. No harm. Not while we’re here. So swear I.”
“So swear I,” Thorongil intones, after the fashion of the knights of old. Boromir turns back to him, taking both his hands to wrap them about the hilt of the toy sword, and for one selfish moment Finduilas is glad her son no longer faces her, that he might not see the tears spilling from her eyes.

Just one night, when no one needed him to be strong, or cheerful, no one needed him to be anything at all, that he might break apart in peace, and piece himself back together with none the wiser once his hands grew steady again. Make himself whole again, that he might be of use. For broken pieces left only mess, and he had to clean up the mess. He could not, would not let the dream come to pass.
Just one night. Surely it was not so gross a sin, to not be strong for just one night.

“Haste still pays haste, and leisure answers leisure; like doth quit like, and measure still for measure.”
Shakespeare’s play leaves us with several unresolved conflicts, such as Vincentio proposing marriage to Isabella (does she accept it or not?), Claudio dealing with the aftermath of his near-death experience, Angelo losing his title, etc. We, as readers, may well be prone to questioning precisely what the outcomes are. This work is our take on each of the conflicts.

Curse him. Curse his name and this supposed gift he’d given of life. Even Javert’s final thought, submerged willfully in the cold waters of the Seine, was littered with the remnants of Jean Valjean. Let him be free. Let the water wash away the curse inflicted on his soul. Let him die now, too tormented to wait in agony for a natural death, even if it meant the remainder of his soul would go to Lucifer’s domain. Let his eternal life be one of misery, as he deserved. Perhaps Valjean would meet him there, but Javert did not think it so.

Boromir swallows through his suddenly dry throat. Aragorn isn’t the first man that he has shared a bed with, or even found deeper words for. He is, however, the first man, who has been patient rather than pushing, who gives and takes in equal measure, and is most assuredly drawn to Boromir himself rather than just his name and position. Boromir doesn’t quite know how to deal with it.

Raskolnikov is a victim of the “white plague”, Dunya is the victim of both a workplace HR nightmare and an intense infatuation, Dmitri is the victim of a toxic homoerotic friendship, Pulcheria won’t let herself become a victim, she’s too busy fretting.
And for some reason not even I, the author of this godforsaken fic can discern, it’s set in New York in the mid 1920s.
And for reasons I can definitely discern everyone is now very gay. Except Luzhin, the gays don’t want him and neither does the circus, so we’re stuck with him.
(New summary, same mediocre taste)
I love how I have absolutely no problem writing a summary for a 3k word one shot but this is the best I can do for my 30k of gay yearning and angst. Thrilling.
