“I love you, you know.”
Buck smiles, and it’s Eddie’s favorite - the one that seems to light him up from within, beautiful and too bright to look at directly for long.
“Of course I know that, Eddie,” Buck replies, easy as breathing, but Eddie shakes his head.
---
Or: Eddie confesses. Buck doesn't love him back, but it doesn't matter. He'll keep telling him anyway.

Summary
“My dick is gone,” Eddie says, hushed but frantic.
Buck splutters, wide unblinking eyes still glued to Eddie’s crotch, eyebrows knit together harshly and dragging high on his forehead. Eddie would laugh at his ridiculous face if he didn’t feel like he was going to throw up. “It’s not gone, you have a—”
“Don’t say it,” Eddie warns weakly.

Summary
Eddie doesn’t see it happen.
He’s still looking at the ambulance Charlie disappeared into, his mask half off in his face, and Captain Mehta is asking him, “Diaz, you want to ride with the kid to the hospital?” when the gun gets fired, only he’s been off the battlefield for over five years now and had to teach himself not to jump every time a door slams or Christopher drops a glass, and so he has the thought, the thought years of PTSD have taught him to have: you’re okay. Not a gunshot.
The spray of blood hits him, first. And then Buck drops like a fucking stone.
or, Buck is the one who gets shot instead of Eddie.

Summary
"EDDIE! HI!,” Buck yells. Everyone in the room flinches. Buck clears his throat. “Um. Hi. Good morning,” he whispers. “Nice to see you both here today.”
“In our…kitchen?” Christopher asks.
“Exactly,” Buck agrees. “It’s a nice kitchen. And my favorite guys are in it. Just like…just like normal.”
“Okay,” Christopher shrugs. “I don’t remember you being this weird.”
Or, Buck and Eddie try to keep their new relationship a secret. It doesn't go well.

Summary
“You look…tense.”
“Oh,” Eddie says, dumbly. He looks down at the clenched hands in his lap and tries his best to relax them. He doesn’t dare look up at Chimney again, just—keeps looking down, wriggling his fingers around like he’s testing out if he can still move them. “I—no. Everything’s okay.”
“Okay,” Chimney draws out. Eddie doesn’t need to be looking at him to know he’s sharing a look with Hen. “Your leg bouncing might trigger an earthquake, though.”
...or, Buck overcorrects. Eddie spirals.

Summary
Eddie’s eyes were studying Buck’s face, and whatever he saw there made him say, “there’s no way you can keep this from Maddie.”
“No,” Buck folded immediately. “I could try, but . . .”
Eddie’s mouth quirked into a smile, showing a dimple, and it was literally heroic of Buck to leave the house with all that going on. “Tell Maddie,” Eddie offered. “Swear her to secrecy. And we’ll just keep it to ourselves until Chris is back on Friday.”
He was so smart. His best friend was so smart and also wanted to kiss him and also said they were practically engaged.
“Good plan,” said Buck, fighting gravity to continue his way out the door. “It’s just one week. How hard could it be?”
---
On a very normal Sunday, Buck and Eddie confess their feelings for each other; what follows is a week of the least normal behavior the LAFD has ever seen.

----------
Or:
In Hershey, Pennsylvania 1902, Buck is a pure and innocent man raised properly in high society, longing all the while for love and freedom. Summary
Buck has self-control. He hasn’t always used it, but he likes to think he’s gotten a lot better at it, throughout the years.
Evidence: He’s clenching his jaw to the point of pain and very pointedly looking at the TV, like the local weatherman spouting off about a heat wave is capable of holding this much of his attention. If this were—before, they would not be watching the news.
...or, Eddie could just use his words, but where’s the fun in that?

“So,” Eddie said, voice light, “what’s good today?”
Buck didn’t even look. He reached beneath the counter, grabbed a small white bag and the to-go cup of juice he had ready before sliding it across to Eddie. “You want the apple turnover. Some orange juice too.”
Eddie blinked. “How’d you—”
“You always glance at both of them but never pick them. Thought I’d make the call for you today. Start your day off with some joy.”
His eyes lingered on Buck. “Always do.”
Or Buck owns a bakery, Eddie gets a little sweet treat every day, and they learn what joy is.

“Are you homophobic?”
“What?”
“Will you be my boyfriend?”
“Yes,” Eddie answered, automatically, even though his mind had volunteered several other pressing questions, like what are you talking about and what is happening and did I recently sustain brain damage.
“Thanks,” said Buckley, and then he pushed Eddie back against the side of the firetruck and kissed him.

Summary
“Wait, you need a sitter?” Chimney says. Eddie nods. “Maddie’s brother got back in town a few nights ago, he’s looking for work.”
Eddie frowns. He doesn’t know much about this mysterious brother of Maddie’s – doesn’t even really know much about Maddie, either, aside from being Chimney’s girlfriend – but he’s pretty sure every time he’s been brought up in conversation it’s not been particularly inspiring. “Is this the brother who flunked out of college because he spent all his tuition on a motorcycle?”
Chimney colours a little. “Um. No?”
or, Buck babysits Christopher and Eddie is—fine about it, actually.

Summary
Buck’s features softened. “Baby,” He whispered. “Why didn't you tell me? I can help you, or at least give you things you need. At least maybe provide understanding for when you’re grouchy because you didn’t feel well.”
Eddie groaned softly. “It’s embarrassing, and I- I didn’t want you to-” Eddie sucked in a breath and tried to shake his head. “I’m supposed to be your boyfriend.”
“You are,” Buck said quickly and with his eyebrows furrowed and he cupped Eddie’s face. “Sweetheart, you’re still a man. A lot of men get periods, Honey.”
“You don’t,” Eddie croaked. Great. He was going to cry now, and that made him feel weaker than he already was. Buck pulled him close to him and kissed his hair as Eddie sniffled.
Eddie gets his period and Buck helps him out.

Buck stares at the man in the brown jacket with a flower in his pocket for three entire minutes and, impossibly, the man is still Eddie Diaz. Or, Buck goes on a blind date. Impossibly, so does Eddie.

Summary
Bobby clears his throat, flustered. “Nothing you say will convince me to let you engage in PDA in this firehouse.”
“But outside of the firehouse is okay?” Buck pitches. “Like, for instance, in the engine?”
“Absolutely not,” Bobby says sternly. Buck deflates. “Just… find it within yourselves to be professional for the rest of the shift. Please.”
“It’s okay, Cap,” Eddie says, with a smile equal parts charming and reassuring. “We’ll behave. Right, Buck?”
“Yeah,” Buck agrees— not because he wants to, but because he’s pretty sure he would do anything Eddie ever told him to. “What’s another 46 hours?”
Or: Buck, Eddie, and their first shift as a couple.

Summary
He wonders if Buck ever thinks about it.
The sheets sticking to his damp skin, their sounds of pleasure echoing around the room, Buck telling him all the things he’s thought about doing to Eddie before. How Eddie would let him without question, knowing Buck would still take care of him even when given all the power in the world.
What this means for himself is something that’s hard to bear thinking about.
Or, Eddie comes to terms with what he deserves.
