Summary
“Tilt your head back,” Eddie says, his voice barely audible over the running water.
Buck does as he was told, tilting his head back and closing his eyes to the spray of water dripping onto his face. Eddie’s hands go to Buck’s hair, lightly scratching and massaging his scalp. The familiar smell of his shampoo fills the shower.
He relaxes into Eddie’s touch, a small hum escaping his lips as Eddie works the shampoo into his curls with slow, methodical movement. Given the chance, Buck would fall asleep in the shower just from the sensation of Eddie’s fingertips against his head. The touch is light, delicate, intimate in a way he hadn’t expected. The butterflies continue to flutter in his stomach.
“Enjoying yourself?”
“Uh-huh,” Buck says, all other words failing him.
“Good.” Eddie laughs, moving to wash the shampoo out of Buck’s curls. “You just relax, I’ve got you.”

Summary
After the shitshow that’s been his life for the past few months, Eddie decides that the best way to move forward is to outsource his life decisions to Buck - after all, Buck has always known how to manage Eddie’s life better than Eddie could. And if it prevents Buck from moving out, then all the better.
Buck is trying to find a new apartment before he gets too comfortable in the Diaz home, but Eddie keeps asking him for things he wants too much to say no to. All he wants is to not hurt anyone, but Eddie seems to be determined to make that impossible.
All the while, there’s Christopher, the firehouse, and the love of it all.

It’s been over two months of chasing Buck across the country, from state to state to state, following a trail he suspects Buck doesn’t realize he’s dropping breadcrumbs on. If he did, Eddie worries he’d stop sending the postcards, and they’re his only clues. Buck left his phone in his apartment back in Los Angeles. If he’s gotten a new one, he hasn’t shared the number with anyone—not Maddie, not Chris, and certainly not Eddie.
So Eddie lays in a too-soft bed in a too-small cabin in the middle of bumfuck Nebraska, the first grey light of dawn creeping its fingers past the dusky pink curtains, and reads the postcard again. He knows what it says by heart, but it makes him feel a little less alone to hear Buck’s voice in his head.

He’s looking at Jee now, who is perched on the seat nearest to Maddie.
“Daddy told me and Mommy that if we touch the bottom of the cake we have to kiss the nearest boy, otherwise our birthday wishes won’t come true.”
Eddie whips his head around to find Chim, who stands across the table from him, Hen and Karen by his side. He watches as something akin to joy glints in his friend’s eyes, and Eddie shoots his best ‘What The Fuck Have You Done?’ look in his direction.

But you were still rude, and defensive, and repulsed by the fact that I wanted to talk to Bobby again.” It took everything in Buck to not apologize for lashing out. For raising his voice. He hated it, but if he didn’t no one would take what he was saying seriously.
